Earning more money is a simple function of two things…

  1. Provide more value than you accept in payment
  2. Serve more people

Providing MORE Value:

If what you are selling is NOT more valuable then the price you charge, then you will not last too long in ANY business.

What DO we sell?

Is it prints?

I hope NOT. Prints is a COMMODITY. We HAVE GOT to sell something MORE than “prints”.

What are the things we can SELL that is BEYOND the commodity of a “print”?

  • Excellent experience for mom
  • Excellent experience for the subject being photographed
  • Sending Thank You Cards. Taking care of the client
  • Creating CUSTOM wall collections/albums/products
  • Making ARTIST suggestions
  • Creating ART itself in your images

Doing things like that will build the value of PRINTS far beyond the print ITSELF.

Serving MORE People:

What is the BEST and CHEAPEST way to get more clients? SPOIL the ones you have so they will refer their friends, neighbors, and family!

The MOST valuable asset in ANY business is the LIST of previous clients. HOWEVER, that value is NOTHING if you don’t “work” the list. If you don’t stay in touch they will eventually NOT be repeat clients because they simply forget about YOU! There are many legitimate reasons clients don’t come back BUT the biggest is they simply forgot about YOU because you do not stay in touch with them. What is the BEST way to get previous clients to COME back? Have an “event” that surrounds something eventful. For example: What about your tenth anniversary?  What about the birth of your child? What about Valentines? Offer a “Lifetime Portrait Member” club with several “member only” benefits/events.

Get more displays up in doctor offices or restaurants. Use every opportunity to meet the owners and compliment them on your establishment. Make a suggestion… “Would it be possible to …. blah blah blah”.. GO FOR IT.
